The Political Channel Website
Client:
The Political Channel

Background: The Political Channel (PCTV) is a production company and distribution entity which provides entertainment with a political twist; targeting an international demographic of young adults aged 18-24.

What was the challenge that PCTV presented you with?
The Political Channel needed a website which appealed specifically to their chosen demographic, putting a new, fresh, fun look on politics. The purpose of the website was to promote and showcase PCTV’s original programs as well as create a central location for political information and news. They wanted a site which would create an active online community of viewers.

How did you go about meeting this challenge?
As with any new site it is important to define and discover who is using the site and how they will navigate it once there. After assessing PCTV’s goals, user flow, structure, and user persons were defined within the information architecture. The information architecture design included a full wireframe and sitemap helping to indicate space allocation, information hierarchy, new interactive tools, strong organization, and a five-year projection plan to help with any future expansions of the site.

After the architecture was defined, the site was specifically designed for the target demographic. The site was then built to incorporate blogs, video, flash, voting polls and more.

What inspired you on this project?
Today’s youth is much more hip to politics thanks to popular TV shows and campaigns like “Rock The Vote”. We embraced this idea and designed the site to be young, exciting and interesting while remaining functional and structured for user experience. PCTV’s targeted demographic, the 18-24 year old population, is a dynamic group and we wanted the image of PCTV to be something that this group could identify with.

How was the project received?  What were the results?
The site drew considerable attention during the 2004 election and intrigued its viewers with dynamic, fun content. It remains a hub of information for political entertainment and discussion. The site was awarded the Gold at the 2005 Horizon Interactive Awards.
